About the New York Film Academy
The New York Film Academy has been a leading film and acting school since its inception over two decades ago. Founded in 1992 by Jerry Sherlock, a reputable producer of such films as The Hunt for Red October, Sherlock was motivated to open the school to provide an affordable option for students wishing to go to film school where the focus was on making films, not just studying them, making it one of the best film schools in the world.Originally operating in the Tribeca Film Center, the school moved to the former Tammany Hall building in 1994 and has since expanded its campuses and workshops to locations around the world, including South Beach in Miami.
In addition to the Academy expanding its global reach, the school has also expanded its program offerings to reflect the changing face of visual storytelling, with programs covering such disciplines as acting, photography, producing, documentary filmmaking, screenwriting, animation, cinematography, broadcast journalism, game design, digital editing, musical theatre, illustration, and graphic design.
At the heart of the Academy’s philosophy is the belief in learning by doing. Filmmaking students can expect to be behind the camera on their first day of class and acting students receive extensive experience acting in front of the camera.
In short, through the Academy’s hands-on degree programs, students are able to achieve a considerable amount in a compact amount of time, making for an unparalleled educational experience.
