For students who wish to obtain an undergraduate or graduate degree from New York Film Academy South Beach, we offer full-time Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree programs in filmmaking.
The BFA film program is nine semesters long and can be completed in three years if a student chooses not to take summer breaks and four years if she or he does take summer breaks. Over the nine semesters, students will complete a series of film classes and projects of increasing difficulty—shot throughout Miami—that will expose them to the full spectrum of filmmaking, from screenwriting and directing to filming and editing. In addition to their film coursework, students will also take two classes each semester in Foundation Studies that will cover the spectrum of the Liberal Arts & Sciences that focus on communications, analysis, and deductive reasoning in the form of Physical and Mental Wellness, Arts & Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social & Behavioral Sciences. The BFA film program culminates in each student directing and editing a final thesis film.
The MFA film graduate program is available to students who have already obtained a Bachelor’s degree from a post-secondary institution. The program is either six or seven semesters and two-years long. Students who wish to complete the MFA film program in six semesters will complete a short form Thesis Film of up to thirty minutes in length filmed in Miami. For those interested in creating a feature length film, the program will last seven semesters, with students spending semesters four, five, and six developing and presenting a completed script draft, business plan for funding, shooting schedule, and detailed budget. In the seventh semester, students will then direct and complete post-production of their feature films.
