Six-Week Film Workshop Overview

Like the Film Academy’s other film workshops, students enrolling in the Six-Week Filmmaking Workshop split their time between in-class instruction that covers the fundamentals of filmmaking and the production of three short films of increasing scope. Students take courses in Directing, Hands-on Camera, Editing, and Writing in which they learn the basic tools of filmmaking, and then apply those lessons to hands-on workshops using high definition digital video cameras, professional lighting packages, and how to edit using Avid Media Composer.

The first three weeks of the workshop are focused on helping students establish a foundation in filmmaking, with lessons brought to life through a series of in class production exercises and two independent film projects.

In the second half of the workshop, classes and instruction are devoted to the development and completion of each student’s Final Film project, a film of up to ten minutes in length that each student writes, shoots, produces, and edits and is accompanied by one or two tracks of sound. In addition to working on their own films, students will also serve as crewmembers on their classmates’ films to gain extensive on-set experience.

Students who successfully complete the Six-Week Filmmaking Workshop will graduate with a foundation of knowledge of motion picture production, the concepts and conventions of film directing and writing a short screenplay, the experience of working in various positions on a film set, and the ability to edit their own short films. At the end of the workshop, students’ work will be shown in a screening open to friends and family.

Fees:

Tuition: $4,490 (USD) +
Equipment Fee: $802 (USD)

Students will also incur additional expenses on their own productions. This varies depending on how much film they shoot and scale of the projects.
