Guidelines for Acting for Scholarship

Students can apply for an acting for film scholarship at the New York Film Academy South Beach for our One-Year Conservatory, Acting for Film BFA, and Acting for MFA programs. A program application is required in order to audition, which can be submitted via online or in person along with a $100 application fee. All applications can be submitted online here.

In order to audition, applicants are required to prepare 2 modern and different monologues that each range from 60-90 seconds in length.

While our Miami location does not provide full tuition scholarships, the auditions allow the Academy to determine the creative talent of the applicant, for which it can award an individual a talent-based discount that can be as high as $15,000 (USD) per year.

The Academy discourages applicants from performing monologues excerpted from such classical texts written by playwrights that include Ibsen, Chekhov, or Shakespeare or original material as well.

All monologues need to be age suitable and come from valid source material that has been issued in television, film, or theatre. To prepare and find the monologue best suited to your talents, we recommend reading a diverse and large number of plays so that you learn to identify the arrangement of a stand-out scene within a script. Some playwrights to look into include Neil LaBute, Sam Shepard, John Patrick Shanley, Donald Marguiles, Theresa Rebeck, Adam Rapp, and other contemporary and renowned playwrights. If you are having difficulty finding source material that is right for you, please contact the admissions office for assistance.

Essentially, you should find pieces of work that enthuse and stimulate you and that you are able to make a personal connection with as that will better reflect your skills and individual character.

If an applicant is unable to audition in-person, she or he has the option to submit a video audition either through DVD or private YouTube links. In submitting the audition, please ensure that the video has your name, the program you’re applying for, and its start date clearly written on the DVD or YouTube links.

After the video or in-person audition is assessed, an Admissions Representative will be in contact soon after to inform you of the decision along with how the award will be applied to your records.

Portfolio Review Scholarship Guidelines

Students have the option to apply for a portfolio review scholarship from the New York Film Academy South Beach for our BFA and MFA programs. In order to be eligible for a portfolio review, applicants need to also submit a program application. Otherwise an applicant’s portfolio will not be reviewed.

Applicants have the choice of whether to submit their application online here or applicants can fill them out at the time of the audition. In order to submit an application, applicants must pay a $100 (USD) application fee.

Admissions Representatives at our Miami location look for the following materials in a submitted portfolio: creative examples of an applicant’s work, whether it is completed or in development. These can take the form of drawings, illustrations, short films, poetry, short stories, storyboards, designs, photographs, or a written screenplay or short story of up to ten pages in length.

If an applicant is unable to attend a portfolio review in person, she or he has the option to submit a portfolio either on a DVD or through private YouTube links. When submitting your portfolio, please ensure that your name, the name of the program you are applying for, and its start date is visible.

The main goal in submitting a portfolio is to demonstrate your creative talents. If you have any questions, please contact our office at +1 (305) 534-6009 or by email at
